And when I say school, I mean college. And when I say college, I mean -- BEER PONG! Oh yes, we're not messing around with this one. (Cinematical is heading back to school in style!) In honor of the new movie College -- about three almost-freshmen who take a weekend trip to visit a prospective college and wind up in wayyy over their heads -- one grand prize winner will stumble away with a sweet beer pong table. In the flick (which has been getting great buzz for a long time now), the hilarious Steve Coogan stars as a failed actor-turned-drama teacher who rallies his students around an absurd, politically incorrect staging of, well, Hamlet 2. The aspirings behind our three favorite captions will prance away with one Hamlet 2 t-shirt, one Hamlet 2 wristband, one sexy Jesus action figure, and one Hamlet 2 car air freshener. I personally have the action figure dancing on my desk as we speak and -- um, yeah -- this Jesus is pretty sexy. (Do I go to hell for saying that?) While speaking with Anna about her upcoming projects, she did tell us a little bit more about the voice work she's doing for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, based on the popular book by Judi and Rob Barrett. The film follows "a scientist who tries to solve world hunger only to see things go awry as food falls from the sky in abundance."

For Faris this is her first animated movie, and she'll be playing a weather girl who's kind of a tweaked version of her (they've filmed her movements and all that jazz). While speaking to her about it, Faris also revealed that aside from co-star Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Mr. T will have roles in the flick. No word on who or what they'll be playing, though this marks Mr. T's first feature role since Not Another Teen Movie back in 2001. Ahem, I smell comeback ...

Faris said she's still doing a little work on the film, though most of her stuff is done. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is due in theaters on January 15, 2010. In the film, Statham stars as an ex-con who's forced by the warden of a prison to compete in a car race where severe road rage and the annihilation of your competitors is recommended. The drivers behind our three favorite captions this week will cruise away with one Death Race poster, one Death Race t-shirt, one Death Race tank top, and one Death Race hat. I'd tell you to use all that to create your own Death Race in the comforts of your home ... but something tells me that might not be the greatest idea. On the actress' website (ScarlettJohansson.com) there's an announcement (seen above) for a contest that begins, "Hey dude(tte) are you UP for a THREESOME WITH SCARLETT!!!?" Obviously it's part of a promotion for Woody Allen's new movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in which Johansson plays a character apparently involved in a ménage à trois with characters played by Cruz and Bardem. Oh, and obviously the prize of this contest doesn't involve sex; you merely get to be the third wheel on a movie date, or something. However, if Johansson's beau, Ryan Reynolds, is the other person, it might be still be interesting. Unfortunately, it's more likely a handler, assistant or otherwise some sort of legally bound chaperon (or is the other person a second winner? I can't make heads or tails of this crazy announcement).

Then again, if Reynolds isn't there, and you're somehow more charming and somehow have sexier abs, this could be your chance to steal Johansson away before she walks down the altar and becomes Mrs. Van Wilder. Actually, you don't even have to wait for the "date" in order to begin the wooing. To win the contest, you have to send an email detailing "your most personal and most creative response as to why YOU WISH to be included in such an awesome treat." Be tactful, though, kids. I know how some of our readers think, and I don't want to hear about any creepy dudes threatening to kidnap Ms. Johansson and bring her to Walt Disney World for a few days together.

Gallery: Johansson or Cruz or Both?

[via Best Week Ever]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Insert Caption: Tropic Thunder

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption
Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game that brings the tropic thunder and then some! Ben Stiller directs and stars alongside folks like Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. (as a black man), Jay Baruchel and Brandon T. Jackson -- all of whom play a group of actors shooting the most expensive war picture of all time. But when the real war comes a little too close for comfort, our pretend soldiers will need to get "in the sh*t" ... for realz. The folks behind our three favorite captions will helicopter away with one very awesome signed Tropic Thunder movie poster. Give the man an old camera, a few actors, and some weird props, and he can make a film that's not only engaging, but also visually stunning. He knows how to make the least become the most, and with the release of My Winnipeg, he's now inspiring others to do the same.

Jam! reports that UK filmmakers are getting a change to get their Maddin on. Both newbie and experienced filmmakers are getting the chance to submit 3-minute odes to their hometown, and Guy says "anything's eligible." Considering the lap-linked Winnipeg, it's not surprising that the doors are wide open...

Anyhow, the online contest is going to give out 1,500 pounds to the winner and a roundtrip flight to ... dum dum dum ... WINNIPEG! Sure, they also get their film screened and included on the UK's DVD release of My Winnipeg. But who cares when you can head to the snowy wonderland? I'm hoping the winner at least gets to choose the season.

If you want more information, head here.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Insert Caption: Step Brothers

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption
Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- that popular online game the whole dysfunctional family can enjoy! Last week, of course, we traveled to Gotham City and asked you fine, dark captioners to give us your best stuff for a photo from this summer's biggest film, The Dark Knight. Needless to say, you certainly lived up to your end of the bargain -- we received a ginormous amount of entries, and it definitely took some time to pick our three winners. Directed by Adam McKay, Step Brothers (which hits theaters on July 25) stars Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as two competitive stepbrothers who must find a way to get along when their single parents get hitched. The three winners from this week will each receive one totally rad Step Brothers poster. Throw it up on the wall; make your stepbrothers and sisters jealous! "I won this! Not you!" And are you seeking advice from all the wrong people (like that guy with the wooden leg who keeps asking to square off against you in a game of naked Twister)? Well, look no further my fellow caption-ers, because the three winners from this week will prance away with one The Love Guru Guru Pitka magic 8- ball action figure (pictured right, click to enlarge). This isn't due to a lack of interest, but rather the writer's reluctance to allow his work to be adapted into film. However, in the wake of projects like the Sarah Michelle Gellar-led Veronika Decides to Die and Eleven Minutes, he's taking on an adaptation his way.

Variety reports that Coelho's spearheading a project to adapt his book, The Witch of Portobello. But he's not looking to sell it to a big studio, or whip up a run-of-the-mill indie production. Instead, he wants to create a fan-made film mash-up.

Continue reading Paulo Coelho Gets Crafty with Film Adaptations

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Insert Caption: Get Smart

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption
Welcome to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game we've heard actually gets you smarter-er! The film in question is Full Grown Men, and Emerging Pictures' blog has thrown up a contest to win tickets to the film's New York City opening on June 25, with further contests to follow for San Francisco and Miami.

The film stars Matt McGrath (the spurned friend in The Anniversary Party) as a man who acts more like a kid than an adult. When his wife chastises him for being a playmate to his son rather than a father, he grabs his childhood friend (Judah Friedlander) and heads for their favorite theme park in Central Florida, where they're confronted with the incongruities between their past and present. But it's also got some sweet cameos -- Alan Cumming as a "disgruntled ex-theme park employee," Amy Sedaris as "a horny bartending clown," and Debbie Harry as "a delusional mermaid."

As for the contest ... this is all about boys trapped in men's bodies, so you just have to do a little writing. "If you're in love with an overgrown boy, or it's your own inner child that's gone wild -- or if you're just noticing Peter Pandemonium everywhere" you can comment in the EP blog and grab your chance to win. And if you are in NYC, San Fran, or Miami and check it out, let us know what you thought of the movie.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Insert Caption: Kung Fu Panda

Filed under: Animation, Comedy, Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption, Hold the 'Fone
Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the online game that karate chops all its competition in half. Last week, we were hangin' with our girls from Sex and the City, and asking you to send in your best captions for a photo of Carrie typing away with some ... thing wrapped around her shoulders. Needless to say, creativity was a flowin'.

1. "Her transformation from socialite to yeti nearly complete, Carrie writes her final, twisted column." -- Jay J.

2. "Note to self: New line of sweaters from Jimmy Choo - not so fabulous." -- Chia S.

3. "I knew I would do anything for fashion, but drugging and shaving a Wampa might be over the line. I should have shaved an Ewok instead ... they're softer." -- Laura E.

See full image and all captions

This week, we're throwing on our random, creepy masks and showing up to your house unannounced with a photo from the new freaky flick The Strangers. Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler play a couple who are harassed (in more ways than one) by three complete strangers who pop up at their front door in the middle of the night. And if you don't leave a funny caption for this one ... well, let's not wait to see what happens. (I'm so not intimidating.) The winners of our three favorite captions will sneak away with one cast-signed The Strangers movie poster. You know what comes next ...

Read the official rules for this contest

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Insert Caption: Sex and the City

Filed under: Fandom, Contests, Insert Caption, Hold the 'Fone
Welcome back to another edition of Insert Caption -- the game Carrie Bradshaw plays whenever she's all dressed up with nowhere to go (see photo below). Last week, we asked you folks to bring us back some funny captions from your trip to Narnia for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, and that you did! Could it be because the gals from Sex and the City are about to make their big-screen debut? I think mayyybe ... Since Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda are four very special ladies in our lives, we decided to give away some very special gifts to those who provide us with the best captions for the photo below. That being said, one grand prize winner will receive one Sex and the City Collector's Edition DVD set with all six seasons of the hit show, two different Sex and the City movie posters and one Sex and the City soundtrack. Meanwhile, two runners up will receive the two different posters and the Sex and the City soundtrack (info on the soundtrack after the jump). Not bad, huh? The perfect foreplay before Sex and the City arrives in theaters on May 30.
